Music & Arts

Music is an essential part of how we worship at Naomi Makemie Presbyterian Church. It lifts our hearts, draws us closer to God, and reminds us of the beauty and goodness that surround us.

When we sing together, we strengthen our bonds with one another and find comfort, joy, and renewal. Through both cherished hymns and new musical expressions, worship becomes a shared celebration of God's presence in our lives.

OUR WORSHIP MUSIC

Music at Naomi Makemie reflects the richness of our congregation and the full breadth of the Christian tradition. Our services feature beloved hymns from our recently updated hymnal, accompanied by piano and organ, alongside a weekly choir anthem. Offerings range from classical sacred works and gospel selections to contemporary melodies, brass ensembles, guitar-led worship, and vocal and instrumental solos.

Throughout the church year, music plays a special role in marking the seasons of faith. Christmas cantatas, Lenten and Easter worship, patriotic summer services, and other special programs are made possible by the gifts and dedication of talented volunteers, professional musicians, and members of our church and local community.

VISUAL ARTS

Creativity is a gift from God, and at Naomi Makemie we celebrate the many ways our congregation reflects that gift. Nestled in the heart of Onancock, a town known for its thriving artistic community, we are blessed with painters, photographers, quilters, woodworkers, and other talented creators who enrich both our church and the wider community.

Pentecost Art Show — Established in 2026, our Pentecost Art Show transforms the church's Makemie Room into a gallery of faith and creativity, showcasing artwork by members and friends as a joyful expression of the Holy Spirit at work through human imagination and craftsmanship. All are welcome to create, to contribute, and to come and be inspired.
